I was digging through some junk and throwing stuff out when I found this scope. Has anyone used these, and is it actually good for any applications?

You could put it on a .22 or .17HMR. That is all about I would do with it.

If you have something to compair it to:

1. See how it performs in low light.
2. Check it for clearness with known top-quality scopes.
3. Find out what the MOA Click limitations are.
4. Dose the reticle lend it self for producing data cards for it?

I once had a 6-18X40 TR that was amasingly clear and lent it self well for data ranging cards.

My personal Desert Storm Scope was a Tasco 3-12X40 and served me well, but was consistantly proportionatly out of focus as at higher magnifications.

The tasco SS series is their only series that I would be recognize has haveing compeditave optical qualities as IOR, Sheppard, or others.

If you just don't have anything better, use it till you can get better. We used some low grade hunting scopes in the 60s in Viet Nam, but they got the job done.

I consider the primary need for premium glass is low light situations. That is where you seperate the men from the boys. I'll still have, and sometimes mount the 3-12X40 on M16s just to remind my self of what can be done with mediocore optics.

If it a piece of junk ------------- chuck it or gun show it for $0.02.

I wouldnt even reconize the SS scopes as being Tasco. SWFA put in the contract for the scope, SWFA is the only one that sells them, and they demand the quality that the SS scopes have. So as far as im concerned, the SWFA puts out the SS scope and not Tasco. When Tasco had it they put out some bad scopes, and gave the SS a bad name and bad rep.

The problem with the salt water immersion was taken care of by Tasco and the SEALs still used them. SWFA has tried to separate their product from Tasco because they went out of business, but the SS is still a Tasco.
