I have a S&W 629 Classic with a 8 3/8" barrel, I'm looking for a good, rugged scope that can handle hot hunting loads. Black or stainless, it doesn't matter.

I have used various handgun scopes from Leupold and Burris and have been very pleased with both. These were on .44's, .41's and a 7mm-08.

They both look nice and there's a lot to choose from, I like the Burris 2-7X

That's a nice one. The Burris I had was a fixed power, but all their stuff is good. You can't go wrong with a Burris on a hunting rig.
RJW
ditto on the burris. Have em on all my contenders and encores, 22 hornet upto 375 JDJ and 444
