Click to view attachmentThis is a modernized and customized Sniper version of the K-31 Schmidt Rubin short rifle. If anyone has any idea where this stock might have come from let me know, as I couldn't find any info on it.

Hi S_R:

An interesting coversion, I've always like the K-31 and 1911 rifles. I think Capital City Firearms may be able to help you about the stock and suppressor used in this version. Send them an email, they seem to be able to find the "impossible" goodies at times.

Thank you for posting the photos, a very interesting modification.

Take care...Jim

i own a K31 as well. it's the most accurate service rifle i own. getting a new stock for it would be an improvement. keep us posted if you find a new stock for it. thanks

I own two K-31's, very accurate indeed. I keep one in original condition and the other has a surplus scope mount with a ACOG designed for the .308, it works very well.

If you take the butt plate off you'll find a tag with the name of the Swiss Army guy the rifle was issued to and the unit he belonged to. Also on the swissrifles.com page they have translations of exactly what the units were, usually reservists or Mountain Corps.

Thanks for the link ssblaster, those are some nice looking match sites they put on them. Parker Hale's are hard to find.

I asked the same question as schmidt-rubin a couple of years ago in a forum in Switzerland but noone new anything about the pictured rifle. If they really were issued to the police, one would find information about it, I assume and the combat dress the guy is wearing is not looking like a Swiss one. Maybe these rifles were a project of someone or prototypes.

I don't think a lot of rifles like that were produced. Probably for select police and military units.

I also love K31 rifles. They are the best value in a firearm today bar none.

Here's some additional information on that particular rifle:

Hey, I know a guy selling one for about $95.00. What caliber are these things? I don't know anything about the K31!

They are great rifles and very accurate. They are a straight-pull bolt action and chambered in 7.5x55 Swiss. The ammo is easy to find, places like Cheaper Than Dirt, Sportsman's Guide, etc, carry it, as well as places like ammoman.com.

The ammo costs a bit more than mil surp, but all the bulk stuff I have ever seen is match-quality Swiss-loaded ammo and a steal for the price.

So... on midway you can not buy bullets to reload. Is there a supplier for bullets or do you just have to purchase after market and neck to a useable bullet for a project down the road? Just curious.

I lied! I just looked in a reloading manual and found out it is a .308 bore. My bad, your fault! wink.gif

My K31 is the only surplus rifle I have kept. I recently put an S&K scout scope mount on it with a 3-9x Burris handgun scope in Weaver quad lock extension rings. I was consistently hitting steel targets at 400 yards with this using handloads.

Grafs.com has the best supplies for the K31 including brass and a number of add-on products.

A Pachmayer slip on decellerator pad mad a big difference in the shootability (steel buttplate = ouch on extended sessions) and added an additional inch or so for better eye relief with the pistol scope.

7.5x55 Schmidt-Reubin ("7.5 Swiss") Very much like a .308/7.62x51.

Nice accurate straight pull rifle that is probably the most accurate and pleasant/fun to shoot milsurps out there. I have two and have shot several others. Best trigger pull I've ever seen in a milsurp, and better than most commercial rifle's OEM triggers too.

The GP-11 is match grade ammo that will typically shoot 1 moa from the K-31. Everything else is just blasting ammo. Cheaper Than Dirt has GP-11, but it's very costly to buy from them. Widener's is the cheapest place I know of to buy it.

Yeah, what they said. Some folks think they're ugly but I say pretty is as pretty does.

The Swiss never used corrosive ammo. Most barrels are pristine.

Some are slightly shorter then others due to crown re-cutting (i.e. slightly shortening the barrel).

Reloading is the way to go. Shoot 7.62 projectiles (they measure differently). I had one rifle that absolutely loved Laupa Scenars 155 grain over IMR 3031 (I forget the throw weight). I thought I had posted some pics of those groups but I can't seem to locate them, maybe I can dig them up later.

Head over to SwissRifles.com. There's a wealth of information out there.
