I have seen them in the movies but sometimes things in the movies are only available from the prop room. It is a bayonete scope mount where you place the scope onto the rifle perpendicular to the rifle and rotate it clockwise 90 degrees and it locks in place. Am I dreaming or what?
Some leupold rings mount like that. Though, I'm not sure what you mean by "bayonete mount". Regardless, they aren't meant to be taken on and off like Hollywood may suggest...

I believe
THIS is what you're talking about. (Wow...I beat Scott to the punch)
As a matter of fact, I'm considering gioving this system a try on my LTR. (If I can get a super deal from Scott on the mount AND a scope)

Exaclty, thanks. And this will work on my Remington model 710? Yeah, I know, I own a model 710, but I like it.

Consider me punch drunk...
The EAW mounts are, to my knowledge, manufactured by (or for) Schmidt & Bender and IOR makes a less expensive copy. I have heard good things about the reliability of these mounts and their ability to return to zero with removal and remounting, but I confess to lacking first hand experience.
I can guarantee I have no idea if they will work on your 710, and Valdada does not know either (just talked to Val). I would think if the receiver dimensions and geometry is the same, it would work fine.
bd457, I hope you are talking about me!! Of course I would work hard in giving you the deal you are hoping for. Drop me a line anytime.
Hope this was helpful.

Hi,
Scott is right.
German EAW used to be a firm called Ernst Apel. The name was changed from Apel to EAW. Apel had a long tradition of making superb mounts and rings. Both former Apel and current EAW mounts and rings are the top quality - they set up standards upon which all other scope mount and ring manufacturers are measured and judged, e.g. Badger, Arms, Sako etc... just name it.
I do not know if there is any connection with S&B as EAW produces mounts and rings for all small arms types ... and has always produced. Personally, I doubt that there isn't any link btw S&B and EAW, but like I said, I don't know for sure.
Here's EAW's homepages:
http://www.eaw.deNevertheless, Scott's right, EAW mounts and rings are the very best quality mounts and rings, for sure!
bd457, I'm positive that Scott can give you a fine deal on either EAW or Val mounts and rings.
Shoot well!
Cheers,
Mace

Thanks guys, I love my present scope for forest hunting but I want something that I can use for long distance. I want to get the SS and be able to switch between the two.
Hey man, I've been out of the loop for a while but, if they're still available I heard good things about the Al Talbot QD mounts which sound like they would do what you need.

Finally something i can give an honest opinion about. LOL
OK the mounts you are refering to are made by Valdada,Leupold and im sure a host of other manufactures that duplicate the design.
First hand knowledge:
I had this mount on my 300wm for awhile, this was a good mount. Sturdy, reliable and overall a good set up. Everytime you removed and reinstalled the mount you where back on target. POI
The only reason for the replacement was i needed (in my mind) more elevation, so i went with a fixed weaver type rail with a 20MOA slant. All of this is my personel preference. The question that stuck in the back of my mind was, over time, would the connection loosen due to wear. But i didnt have the mount on for that long.
If anyone wants to try this mount ill sell the leupold one peice i have for a good price. Just have it laying around the house back home right now.
http://www.leupold.com/products/tactical_p...ts_tactical.htmIts the STD mount on the site. The mount fits mouser 98 actions.
I think BD457 had it right with the EAW quick-detach mounting system. Thanks all who responded.

There all quick detach, the difference is there is a one piece, and a two piece like the on posted it the following post.

Scott had no experience with the IOR unit and could offer no assesment of how well it worked.........so I ordered one and am going to give it a try. I really have no use for a quick disconnect, but I do need a mount and the price was LESS than a flat mount and rings. I've heard nothing bad about IOR products and in my experience have only seen good. I'll give a report when I've used it a bit. (or you might see it in the for sale forum, but I doubt it)
I received it yesterday and rough mounted to a 700 with a Mark IV scope. The first thing I noticed is that it locks up TIGHT. I haven't fired it of course, but I have a lot of confidence that it would return to zero (at least as good a zero as I can shoot).
The second thing I noticed was that it's pretty high for a 40MM objective scope. The front of the scope sits .450" off the barrel. With a 56mm objective lens, this would be perfect. A good cheek weld will take a stock pack AND some foam. I'll give another report after shooting, but that may be a while.
Good to know and please report when you have zeroed removed and shot again. Thanks.

This is probably a stupid question, but here goes. Do they make the attachments in a weaver form? So that you could have a NOD on them and be able to switch from your day scope to your night scope without having to relearn a new rifle, or am I not making any sense? Thanks guys

From what I understand about them, once you have a scope mounted a zeroed, it is zeroed again once you take it off and put it back on.

But do they make a "ring" system so that the mount can accept Weaver style scope? I dont know exactly how to say what i mean, i appologize for the ignorance.

Thier web site doesn't say whether they come in 30mm and 1 inch. I will e-mail them and find out. They do say that the bases will fit the Rem 700, Win m70 and Mauser 98.
They have no e-mail address listed on thier site. VERY LAME and I tried to leave a message to find out about the size of rings and I got cut off after about 30 seconds VERY VERY LAME After some digging, I found out that thier standard is 30mm but they do sell adapter rings for 1" scopes.
I guess I could sum thier web site up in an analogy to Pamela Anderson....Looks pretty but........
The rings supplied are 30mm.
One of the GREAT things about this set-up is that you CAN go from a day scope to a night scope. As far as "Weaver" style, NO. What you would do is order two sets of rings and set up both scopes to mount into the one mount. Not hard at all from what I see. As a mater of fact, that is what I had planned to do.
An earlier post showed concern about the mount loosening up over time. The mount has addressed that problem and has adjustments for such an issue. I wouldn't think it would be much of a concern after looking at the construction of the set-up.
Scott is working with me right now to see if there are lower mount rings that I may be able to use.
I'll keep you posted.
