I am looking to get a new one piece base for my Savage. Which one would you prefer? Full picatinny rail or cut out rail? What are the pro's and con's to each?
Thanks, Phessor cool.gif

Phessor,

I shoot Savage rifles and I use the 2 piece picatinny rail type, but only the ones made of steel. I do not like the alloy ones by Weaver as they are not adequate in strength. Since a lot of Savage rifles have no floor plate and must be loaded and unloaded from the top only, it is advisable to have a two piece or a cut out one piece. Again, I like the steel bases and only ones that use all four mounting screws.

Good Luck,

I had a farrell base and liked how there was plenty of room to load, and the quality was preaty good IMHO. But there were two things that made me go to a badger one is that the farrell does not have a recoile sholder and the other is that for me to get a good cheek weld i get real low and was having problems finding rings that would bring the scope down to me. so i went with badger. hope this helps

The one thing I was worried about was the height of the Farrell mount. It looks TALL!!

waht is the obj. of the scope you rgoing to put on it?

I am putting a Millett Scope 4-16x 56mm. I have a set of Leupold high rings on it now but the scope touches the barrel. If I go with the Farrell base then I am hoping with the height of the base that I can use a set of Badger low rings that I have. This is for a prairie dog gun of mine.
