Here's my Smith 1911, Novak sights, Wilson Combat mags. I realize they're not that popular but I've had no problems and it's very accurate right out of the box. My camera sucks too, I can never get a clear photo.
cmshoot
Here's one I built for a buddy recently. Started as a stock Springfield.

1. Installed Novak sights

2. Extended thumb safety

3. Match barrel bushing and crowned factory barrel

4. Throat and polish feed ramp

5. Install and tune Ed Brown Hard Core extractor

6. Hand-checker front strap to 30lpi and cut under trigger guard for higher grip

7. Fit factory grip safety for a better fit and higher grip

8. Open magazine well

9. Install King's trigger and tune

10. Dehorn all edges

11. VZ Grips black canvas Micarta grips

12. Milled front cocking serrations into the slide

I did several other little things here and there. Finished it off by sending it to Chris Fazio at KG Coatings for an OD green finish with matte black accents.

She'll shoot around 2" at 25yds with 230grn Remington Golden Sabers and Hydra Shoks.

Straight out of the box with nothing added or taken away. Nothing special and nothing fancy but it goes bang every time I pull the trigger and generally hits what I wanted to. I carry it whenever the occasion and clothing allow for it.

cmshoot's grips with the SP Logo on it would make it nicer. deal.gif

2" groups is very reasonable, and expected out of a nice build. I get that out to 3" using 230gr round nose Aguila. It performs well with the cheap Wolf 230 gr as well.

I've got two 1911s well one is actually called a 2011. Both are in 10 mm. The Kimber Stainless Target II has checked front strap, night sights and a trigger job. The STI is a 6" Eagle with a custom serial number, long dust cover, and adjustable night sights.

canavar, How do you like your Kimber Ultra CDP II ? Does it like most ammo you feed it? Also,Karsten, how about your SA Lwt Compact? I am seriously looking for another .45 for ccw use. Looked at a couple of SA commander size pistols today. Do the LW models hold up well with full strength rounds?

Thanks,
Steve
Karsten
Recon,

While I can't say I have put a lot of full house loads throught the SA Lwt Compact it has had close to a 1000 rounds of my old ISPC Ammo, 230 grain LRN that made Major and then some. Only problem was with some new loads I loaded long at 1.270 OAL when it shou;d have been 1.250 max.

I had a S&W 745 with an Alloy Frame/Steel Slide and I must have put close to 35,000 rounds with out a glitch.

Nothing wrong with Alloy frames if you clean and lube them but that goes for all 1911's.

I've been looking for a 1911-A1 with light rail for sometime but didn't want to pay that kind of $$$$, well yesterday I called my local gunshop & asked if they had any Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec models other than stainless in; they had one. I told them to hold it I was on the way. When I got there I was looking at it, but then I noticed another one that caught my eye, it's was a loaded model. I held t for a few moments, and what sealed the deal on this beauty is the front serrations on the slide plus I only had to pay $300 cash with my XD45 Tactical Trade in. I'm going to order a Recon Receiver from Caspian and that will complete my rail gun build and under the price of one. I've already ordered somethings for this beauty, I've ordered a Blackhawk Serpa & different grips (look below) because I want to save the wood grips.

My Punisher Grips

Let me know what you think?????
cmshoot
The Loaded Springfields are a very good deal. They're good to go as is, or you can have a little work done to them. It's pretty much just labor, most all the "necessary" parts are already there.
184SFS
I just picked up my Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Loaded yesterday. I plan on ordering a Caspian Recon receiver and that way I'll complete my "railed" gun build for half the $$$. I ordered a Blackhawk Serpa as well as new grips, I want to save the wood grips.

My carry 1911 normally sports a set of gray Alumagrips, but sometimes when I take her out on the town I dress her up. cool.gif

Here she is with some fancy rosewood or cocobolo (I ferget which) grips by Esmeralda:

Here's another one of mine, a custom Dan Wesson Patriot. It's sporting ironwood grips (also by Esmeralda)

184SFS, why don't you just have a Dawson Precision, or Brownell's, light rail put on your SAI?

Some have said that would limit my options on holsters, is this true?
cmshoot
No more so than the Caspian frame you mentioned.

Any of the custom makers will make a holster to accomodate. The are several good "assembly line" holsters out there now to fit 1911's with light rails.

Steve, sorry for not responding earlier, I lost track of this thread. The Ultra CDP II has shot, without failure, everything that I have fed it. For a defensive load in this gun I like the CorBon 185 +P Hollowpoints. I use the lighter rounds in short barrels to get better expansion. You may also want to consider a Glock 36 with a mag extension as a CCW 45.

I sent you a PM, I want to speak with you off line about it so I don't take over the thread. If it's possible I might do that instead.

I pinched the sh!t out of my pinky slapping in a magazine a few days ago, last time I do that! I had to hit the release button with my left hand to get the tip of my finger out of there. It was a Chip McCormack 10 rounder. Needless to say my day at the range was over because it wouldn't stop bleeding.
184SFS
My 1911 is complete.....here's what was done:

-Novak Light Rail
-Standard Recoil Spring Guide & Cap
-Extended Slide Release
-Tactical Mag Release
-Recoil Buff
-Smith & Alexander Magwell & Mainspring Housing
-Replace Mainspring, Mainspring Cap, Mainspring Cap Pin, Mainspring Retainer Pin
-18.5 pound Recoil Spring
-EP Firing Pin Spring

I know the pictures don't do it justice, I'll try and get some better pictures soon.

Looks great. Make sure you shoot the crap out of it and make sure that it functions with the Shock Buffer. I've seen them cause malfunctions in some pistols, but it's rare in a 5" Gov't model.

Thanks, I've put 100 rounds through it since I've added the buffer, no problems yet.

I would consider 500 rounds a good initial break-in for the 45. Looks great, run everything you can through it, never hurts to see what it won't feed. Damn I love the 45!

I just polished the feed ramp & now I have no problems chambering Speer Gold Dots, before that it would jam every round. I think the polished ramp & the 18.5 lb. spring helps with the feeding issue.

My 1911 is a 1943 Colt in original finish with all original parts. Nothing fancy , but it is rather unique. It is one of the serial # overlaps between Colt and Remington Rand. It is also a Lend Lease weapon as it bears British proof marks on both frame and slide. For the purists out there, I'll try to get a pic of it on later.

Valtro.... an Italian made 1911.
Expensive, but very high quality. Shoots fantastic, but hey it's a 1911 so what else would you expect. I replaced the walnut grips with aluminum... The wood is just too pretty to scuff up.
cmshoot
667, that's pretty neat. I hadn't heard of the Valtro.

ronl, I'd love to see some pics.

I wanted a really nice 1911, but I'm not the type to go buy a gun and then ship it off to some gunsmith to be reworked, tuned and beautified... I just wanted a top notch gun I can shoot right away.

You guys are making me drool!!!

I have never owned a 1911, but will be purchasing one for myself, as a graduation present. I graduate from DLI (Arabic) in three weeks, so I have gotten the thumbs up from my HH6 to get one. I have fired a ton of them, carried one in the box for a while, just never owned one of my own.

My eyes are on the Springfield Armory TRP "Operator"... since I am gonna use it as a carry piece from time to time. My daily carry piece now is a Glock 36, absolutely LOVE that gun. I also have a Glock 21 that has had MANY rounds through it, but... it's time for my first 1911.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but would appreciate any input from you guys. Also on my list, would be the Kimber Warrior... or something along those lines.

Cheers,

Darren
cmshoot
For "carry piece", are you talking about on duty or concealed while off-duty?

For on duty use it would be great. For concealed carry, it's a bit on the big/heavy side. SAI has a Lightweight Champion Operator that would be fantastic for a concealed carry 1911. I'm usually a little leery of aluminum-framed 1911's, due to first half of the feed ramp being part of the frame, but in the LW Champion Operator, the barrel is fully supported with a 1-piece feed ramp. Plus, it uses a forged aluminum frame, not cast. http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=32
