Here's my Smith 1911, Novak sights, Wilson Combat mags. I realize they're not that popular but I've had no problems and it's very accurate right out of the box. My camera sucks too, I can never get a clear photo.
cmshoot
Here's one I built for a buddy recently. Started as a stock Springfield.

1. Installed Novak sights

2. Extended thumb safety

3. Match barrel bushing and crowned factory barrel

4. Throat and polish feed ramp

5. Install and tune Ed Brown Hard Core extractor

6. Hand-checker front strap to 30lpi and cut under trigger guard for higher grip

7. Fit factory grip safety for a better fit and higher grip

8. Open magazine well

9. Install King's trigger and tune

10. Dehorn all edges

11. VZ Grips black canvas Micarta grips

12. Milled front cocking serrations into the slide

I did several other little things here and there. Finished it off by sending it to Chris Fazio at KG Coatings for an OD green finish with matte black accents.

She'll shoot around 2" at 25yds with 230grn Remington Golden Sabers and Hydra Shoks.

Straight out of the box with nothing added or taken away. Nothing special and nothing fancy but it goes bang every time I pull the trigger and generally hits what I wanted to. I carry it whenever the occasion and clothing allow for it.

cmshoot's grips with the SP Logo on it would make it nicer. deal.gif

I've been looking for a 1911-A1 with light rail for sometime but didn't want to pay that kind of $$$$, well yesterday I called my local gunshop & asked if they had any Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec models other than stainless in; they had one. I told them to hold it I was on the way. When I got there I was looking at it, but then I noticed another one that caught my eye, it's was a loaded model. I held t for a few moments, and what sealed the deal on this beauty is the front serrations on the slide plus I only had to pay $300 cash with my XD45 Tactical Trade in. I'm going to order a Recon Receiver from Caspian and that will complete my rail gun build and under the price of one. I've already ordered somethings for this beauty, I've ordered a Blackhawk Serpa & different grips (look below) because I want to save the wood grips.

Let me know what you think?????

My 1911 is complete.....here's what was done:

-Novak Light Rail
-Standard Recoil Spring Guide & Cap
-Extended Slide Release
-Tactical Mag Release
-Recoil Buff
-Smith & Alexander Magwell & Mainspring Housing
-Replace Mainspring, Mainspring Cap, Mainspring Cap Pin, Mainspring Retainer Pin
-18.5 pound Recoil Spring
-EP Firing Pin Spring

I know the pictures don't do it justice, I'll try and get some better pictures soon.

Valtro.... an Italian made 1911.
Expensive, but very high quality. Shoots fantastic, but hey it's a 1911 so what else would you expect. I replaced the walnut grips with aluminum... The wood is just too pretty to scuff up.

Hey Guys,
Well, my department finally approved us for carrying an almost a 1911(can't have that nasty and unsafe single action trigger no.gif), in this case, any of the ParaOrd LDA pistols. They also finally approved the .45 ACP caliber, too. So, it looks like my beloved .40 Caliber Glock 35, is gonna be relegated to back up duty, in place of my newest addition, a ParaOrdnance P14 Limited LDA, in good ole .45 ACP! Here she is. Ain't she a hottie droolguy.gif ...

She came with the factory hard shipping case, and five magazines. I picked up a nice Kramer Horsehide IWB holster, and figure I'll keep her loaded with something nice like some 230 grn Gold Dots. As soon as I can recover financially, I'm gonna send her south and beg Shep for some of that good old fashioned Southern magic he works. Until then, I think I'll be able to suffer through wink.gif
Respectfully,

I run a modified Springfield Armory TRP in Black Armory Kote, that I did the following work on:

Switched the rear sight for a Yost-Bonitz Professional model. Plain black serrated.

Wilson Oversized Magazine Release that I cut down to a more usable size

TechWell USA aluminum grips and Carry model mag funnel, hand fitted the mag well of the pistol to match the funnel

Action tuned and trigger set to 2.25lbs. Had to have the sear, disconnect, and trigger replaced. The sear and disconnect are Cylinder & Slide and the trigger is an STI carbon fiber model.

Tuned the factory extractor, it didn't have enough tension as it came from the factory.

Replaced the recoil spring with a 15lb ISMI, and the mainspring with a 19lb ISMI. I also use CPB Bullets Shock Buffers.

Folks that say a 1911 isn't reliable, or that you can't run 'em a lot without cleaning them are either full of it, or have only seen/used improperly or "overly" tuned 1911's. I only have about 5,000rds out of this one so far, but it's been flawless. Too boot, it's scary accurate. I killed a moving ground hog with it at about 50yds: a single 185grn FMJ just behind the head.

The Armory Kote is actually KG Coatings Gun Kote. I can't even begin to count the number of presentations I have from the holster on this pistol so far, and it has only recently started to get some "character marks" on some of the corners and edges, and all of my work has been out of a Blade Tech Gunsite model Kydex holster. On top of that, I've used it in many of the classes that I teach and have run a few hundred one-handed cocking drills off the rear sight with no wear/marks on the slide to show for it.

Along with the abovementioned holster, I use 5 single mag pouches from Comp-Tac, all on a CR Speed Hi Torque belt.

I was surprised to have FedEx show up with my new SF Mil Spec today. It's no wonder you can't find them. It's a lot of gun for the money. Can't wait to get to the range with it to see how it shoots.

I just picked it up yesterday biggrin.gif and I'm already in love..
I've always had double stack plastic guns and after handling this fine piece of work I can say they feel like the slide is gonna fall off laugh.gif

This beauty is a Fusion Scout XL in 45ACP with ion bond coating, chain link stippling and stainless accents.
I sold my Sendero to buy a 1911 and was going to buy a loaded Springfield form Shep, sorry Shep, and have him work it over but then I found this beauty, new unfired, for 500 off retail and couldent resist.

Got her all cleaned up and lubed and headed to the range tomorrow to put 150 rounds through her...

Now I just need some VZ grips and a good holster.. Any Ideas?

Here's my 4" Springfield Champion. It was stock and I installed the Wilson Combat beaver tail, trigger and trigger job, hammer and I painted it.

One thing I'll share with y'all. When I painted it I used Brownells Alumahide II but in stead of letting air dry and cure. I decided to bake it. I pre heated the oven to 300 degrees and put it in for 30 minutes. It turned out great and harder than woodpecker lips.

The slide I used Gun Coat and over cured it.

Take care, flea

On that note: God Bless Shep! The little 4" SA Champion I built was finally talked out of my hands. A friend offered me $1,100 for it and Shep had found me a SA TRP Stainless Steel like brand new. So I basically traded one of the other and still made $100, thanks to Shep!

I can't wait to get my hands on it. I've been like a little kid. From what Shep told me about the TRP. It's the only SA that has a forged frame made in the US and pretty much hand fitted. He's going over it right now and says it's pretty dang nice.

Here's a picture of my 4" Champion I built and the new TRP Shep found for me.

Hawker
Wilson .45 Protector. The gun is all stainless, but I had Wilson do an armor tuff job in black slide over gray frame last winter. I added the starburst grips which are awesome (2nd photo from Wilson to show grips). It is a carry gun and IDPA competitor in CDP Division. Best pistol I own. It is definitely not a safe queen. It is used regularily (at least once or twice a week). As a side note.... after Wilson armor tuffed it, the grip safety wasn't quite sensitive enough for my liking. Vern took it apart and applied his magic. It's perfect now. It's one darn nice 1911.

I am now the proud owner of 2 1911 gov. I know there not colts but they are extremely accurate I can hit empty cases at 20yds so i am happy with that I also have the 22 lr conversions for them. I installed the hammer and grip safty myself that was nerve racking! taking a file to a brand new pistol. I have broke them in. some of the most fun ive had in a while!

The grips are from VZ they are Operator 2's I had some of their Tactical Diamonds on it but they were too aggressive for my hands (I have soft sissy hands-- not as soft as Shep's though). These grips are perfect and John get's these things in the mail the second you pay him!
The only thing I've changed on this pistol is the two piece guide rod for a SS one piece mil spec. I changed the recoil and firing pin spring to 18.5lbs. I shoot the snout out if this thing!

One last thing -- I guess the "II" fell off the Warrior part-- damn slippery Roman numerals (inside joke).
JPBeck
I've been using a Galco Avengers holster for IDPA and I've always been a bit slow with it compared to when I use my paddle Comp-Tac. I was looking for something that would draw a bit slicker, but I really am trying to stay away from the plastic stuff. I guess at age 36 I am getting more ... something. So I was looking around at the different options out there and found myself looking at what looked like a holster that give me that slick draw yet have some leather protection on it. That's when I found the Minotaur Gladiator Holster (technically it's not a Comp-Tac) but they are the only distributors of that line. I'm thinking they get the leather portion shipped to them and they install their kydex holster (but don't quote me on that).

Basically the holster is two parts-- the holster and the leather backing. It's a Kydex holster split in half. This model is a belt holster (as opposed to their more commonly known IWB holster). I took today off to get ready for this weekends match-- and practiced presenting out on the range (I must have presented 150 times), my time went down a bit and my buddy I shoot with said my draws looked alot more smooth. The holster keeps the pistol tight against the body, yet the leather keeps the pistol from poking you in the side. I'm not going to say that it makes carrying a full sized 1911 comfortable, but it makes it more comfortable. I'm really happy with this holster and I'm glad I found it.

When I first started shooting in the late 80's I got into bullseye shooting. It was great fun kinda like bowling but better. My 2 primary pistols were a S&W Model 41 and a S&W Model 52-2 in .38spl. Right before kids became a full time job I picked up this .45 and really never used it..just went into the safe. Looking for opinions as to selling it to a bullseye shooter or having it turned into a carry gun?

With that mount on there, I'd keep it as a comp gun. Looks like too much of a hassle to get rid of the mount to make ANOTHER carry 1911, when you already have half a dozen or so!

wasn't gonna post it...but I think ones a comp gun...how many of THOSE do I need? wink.gif Colt frame...late 80's smith unknown.
