Does anybody out there has any experience with a range of special sniper ammo called SWISS P made by RUAG Ammotec of Switzerland? I've heard a great many positive things about that ammunition that's supposedly available in all common calibers. Apparently a number of sniper units from different allied armies are using it, especially the .338LM. A UK Royal Marine Commando friend just returned from down range and told me ghreat things about the .338LM round they are using. Superb accuracy out to 1700 yards with a 260gr bullet. Was just wondering before I look further into this ammo.

Ruag makes excellent match ammo.
They are very expensive, but if you have the money, you wont be disapointed.

Wow. I expected more out of their website. They don't give any specifics about grain or price. Just a number to call for more information.

If I remember right, I talked to these guys at the SHOT Show. Their ammo looked like great stuff, and the guys at the show were very knowledgeable. The downside was that they told me they only sold to LE and military. I told them that we were a dealer that dealt directly with LE and military, and they still wouldn't bite.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm an old hand who isn't really into this online stuff (yet). I rather keep quiet and observe, guess can't take an old lurker out of his habits. However, your forum is really interesting with many great features and expert opinions, thus my first request on this RUAG/SWISS P ammo.

Yes they do have some good information on the website. On the left side of the panel you will see a heading " Download Factsheets", click on it and it will get you to a new page with all the different caliber information on .pdf files that you can download. Interesting to see the different cartridge types for specific applications, wish we had some of that stuff available back in the days.

Yeah right, very expensive if you're able to get it. Some of my military and LE contacts that have been testing the stuff have confirmed that the ammo is great but expensive. But then again, most all things made in switzerland are. I have an old K-31 swiss army sniper rifle and the ammo for this, the GP11 7.5mm round is expensive for surplus ammo. Very accurate and still performing great even tough they are 20 - 30 year old factory loads. I was visiting Switzerland this summer to link up with some old comrades in arms and we were invited to go out on sunday morning to the local 300m range, that's the standard distance most of the swiss are shooting their trainings and competitive matches at and the K-31 was still very visible. Accuracy wise, it out performs the standard swiss army issued service rifle, the SIG550 by far and this is a damn good assault weapon. I've shot many a mags throught the old SIG Stgw57 and also the new SIG550 and it's variants and they are outstanding accurate guns but no match for the K-31s precision down range. But then again, two totally different applications and comparing apples to oranges.

Anyway, I was fortunate to get my hands on a few boxes of the .338LM - 252gr Ball and 250gr Target (HPBT) match round and squeeze 'em out of my TRG. Nice fall weather, good light and a steady 4 knots off about 7 o'clock. 5 rd - 4 3/4"group at 800y, 5 rd - 6"group at 1000y, 5 rd - 7 1/2"group at 1200y with the Target round. The groups with the Ball round were opening up slightly by just under 1", also not too bad and all this with standard factory loads. Now I'm not into competitive shooting, did some matches in the past, just enjoy the smell of burned powder and a plink down range. I've been shooting since the age of 6 when I was started out by my grand dad with an air rifle, moving up to the .22 by 8 and to full bore with 12.

Sorry for the length of the mail, really didn't mean to go on like that. Promise to keep it short in the future.

Lurp, don't worry about keepin' it short; that was good info!

After shooting it side by side with black hills it really was better and flater shooting
in PGM Gol and accuracy at 1350 meter it needed 7 and ~ less0.3 mil wind drift cliks less in the 338 lm 250 grain
For normal use dont really big deal for the price i need to pay especially if you can reload your own
and the black hills brass is far better
maybe LE just willing to pay more like a man who buys accuracy international when a remington can do the same work foe less than half the price

I've checked out the website and those prices are for 20 rd boxes...........quite steep! As to avishi's comment that LE is willing to pay the price I do have to say that it is worth every penny. I was out last week with an ERT sniper unit and have attached a .pdf file to this message. I hope it works, I'm not too swift when it comes to dealings with all this new electronic media.
Long story short, the different application cartridges they produce gives the shooter the choice of exactly the round he needs for the situation at the scene without havig to worry about his settings. Just pop in the appropriate round for the task at hand and off he goes. The AP was amazing in penetrating everything that was put up. A 1/2" AR500 steel plate at 200 yards was no match as was any of the body armour. The glass cutter with a solid FNBT bullet penetrated everything put up, did not disintegrateand stayed through on its path of aim to hit the target even up to 15ft after penetration. We put this ammo through its paces and I have to say that it performed very wqell on all accounts. So yes, it is expensive tactical ammunition, but it will do the job when it counts. I heard from an old sniper buddy of mine who has been using the RUAG SWISS P ammo in Afghanistan and is in regular contact a guy who does demo shoots stateside, that they will be at the Shot Show in Vegas with a booth so I will check them out.

No, RUAG is from switzerland and a swiss govt owned defense contractor with 4 different business units - aerospace/land systems/electronics/ammunition, all to be seen on their website: www.ruag.com

LAPUA is just the caliber/brand name made by NAMMO, a joint finnish/norwegian govt defense contractor.

Both companies manufacture the .338LM (Lapua Magnum) cartridge with the RUAG .338LM ammunition available just for Military/LE at this time.
