How are these scopes? I'll be looking for something affordable for my .204 Ruger, When I get the .308 barrel for my TC I'm putting the IOR on that and I'll want something for the .204 barrel. I'm interested in the Viper series 3-9x40, any reviews? Thanks

S-R,

These aren't even in the country yet, but they were outstanding at SHOT. The Diamondback is a great choice also, not your typical low budget scope. The optics are many steps above other scopes in the price range.

I've talked to some "optics guys" and Vortex has an odd strategy, give the customer more than their money's worth ohmy.gif
What's up with that?

When they come in, if you get one, you have a three day no fault guarantee, if you ain't happy, send it back to me. I'll pay shipping. i'm confident you will likee either one.

I looked at these with Scott at SHOT. Very nice, especially for the $. They have a compact spotting scope I'm looking at.

Sounds good, let me know when they come in. Even if the .204 doesn't like it I have plenty of rifles I could use it on. BTW what country are they made in?

They are Asian, either Japanese or other, but are very fussy with their specs. I have absolute knowledge they delay delivery of product lines if they ain't up to snuff. It's either right or doesn't get offered. The results are quite positive.

Scott,

Do you know when you'll have these in stock?? A good friend will be in the market for the 6.5-20 50mm viper.

Thanks,

Hey guys,

I was looking at these yesterday at the NRA convention in St. Louis. I have to say, given the constraints of the enviroment, they looked really good. I was talking with the factory guys, very impressive. They are planning on a fine crosshair dot reticle first, then a range finding reticle in a dedicated tactical scope, but both those are probably at least a year out.

Straight shooters, I liked that, and what seemed to be a danged fine optic.

Vince,

Glad to hear. They ARE straight shooters, and offer quality above others in their class, so they are a natural product addition to LO.

Wayne, I will call tomorrow and find out ETA for all the riflescopes. Thanks for the bump.

Riflescopes have arrived! If you are looking for a great value priced hunting scope that will impress you with the quality beyond the price point, check out the Diamondback and the Viper.

Just got a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 scope from Scott. The optics are crystal clear and I have been very happy with what I have seen so far. I would definitely recommend a Vortex scope. My experience with other scopes in the price range is somewhat limited, but for the money, the Vortex scope is definitely the best that I have seen so far.

Scott, thanks for the help and the excellent service!!!! I am waiting to hear about the Vortex spotting scopes, will keep watching the posts.

i was looking through some of their binoculars the other day. i'm no pro, but they seemed very nice. the 12x50 diamond whatever ones were under $300.

it's almost time for me to buy a scope. only a few weeks to go. i was just gonna go with the IOR 2.5-10x42. i've been wondering whether to maybe go with a cheaper brand with parallax adjust though. folks seem to comment highly on the IOR. i hadn't seen anybody complaining about parallax issues. it's preset to 150 yards or something maybe?

i really need to keep it under $800. that's almost double what i was really wanting to spend. surely i can get a decent scope for that.

when it comes time, i figured i'd just call scott for some discussion on the topic. any feedback is more than welcome.

so, do you have some tactical vortex models in? how much are they running?

If you want to look, try LibertyOptics.com and when you get there and get the popup that says store under construction, just hit OK.

You'd need to talk to Scott regarding prices. I'm good friends with "thecynic" and know his new Vortex riflescope very well. We were just at the range last evening trying out some new ammo for his AR. He printed the best group I've ever seen out of a factory AR. The scope is pretty amazing for its price group. For the money....I think most guys would be extremely satisfied.

When you talk about IOR's......they are in a totally different catagory. So it wouldn't be fair to compare IOR to Vortex. I just got my first IOR a few weeks ago.....I now have found optical narvana...Nuff' said about that.

Guess the advice would be....spend as much as you can comfortably afford...a guy can always upgrade down the road. Vortex is an excellent choice for its price range....IOR is amazing...and if you can affors it...go for it.

There might be other options....check with Scott...he does an extremely good job of describing what's out there in your price range. You then can make an "Informed decision" on which scope best fits your needs.

Good Luck....and happy shooting,

Wayne

ahh, the vortex link has prices. thx. i'd been to the site, and it seemed like just about everything but the IORs had no details. everybody was referring to what a value they are "for the price" & i couldn't find a vortex scope price anywhere.

so it looks like , for the price of a low end IOR, you can get a high-end vortex. with parallax adjuster.
i know they're not in the same leagues, but it just makes it difficult. i'm wanting to move from 100 yard shooting to 5-600 yards. i'm on a moderate budget, but i want to do it right. don't want to make things harder for myself.

but yeah, it's a tough decision picking scopes. the big thing is, i don't want to spend any amount, and have it just be a waste. i have 2 scopes that are about $100 each that are a bit on the crappy side. i can shoot better groups at 100 yards with iron sights than i can a 4x simmons. that ain't right. this isn't match sights either. i'm talking poopy pants AK sights. and the front post is twice the size of the paper.

i know i gotta shell out as much as i can for a scope. this Vortex thread just kinda caught my interest. more bang for the buck is what i need. (just like the rest of the world, i know)

so, the glass is good, that's what everybody is commenting, but how about functionality, repeatability, accurate adjustments, warranty & support, etc...
LibertyOptics
Guys,

The Vortex prices are MAP. They are tough about this. SP members need to contact me if they are ever interested in a scope.

Vortex Vipers are highly spec'd Asian scopes. The glass in the 6.5-20x44 Viper was better than the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56, after spending some quality time behind both at the same time, from light to dusk to dark. This is my opinion. I can expound to anyone interested.

These are not Sightrons (make 'em cheap and stack 'em deep). Vortex has roots as a birding company (Eagle Optics) and birders are as fussy about their optics as any rifleman (though some "riflemen" I've been dealing with lately may be excepted winky.gif)

Vortex is a new way about thinking, giving the customer top quality stuff at a fair price. Thet really care about their products and customers. They have a VIP warranty that rivals anyone in the business.

The spotter (Skyline ED 20-60x80) is here, I was hoping for range time tomorrow, but it is not to be. Next weekend I'll have it out for a full review and pics.

Vortex are not German optics, but I'll stack them up against any Lupy, Nikon, Bushnell, Nightforce etc for clarity, brightness, and resolution any day.

Please, I'm officially begging you guys, if you are looking for a duplex or fine plex scope that won't break the bank, give these a try. Vipers have resettable knobs too!

Tactical models will be out in 2008. I can't wait!!

Hey Scott,

I am slowly putting together an SPR, and love the 2-12 IOR, but of course cash is always a concern. Do you know if there is any thought to something of this type in the tactical line coming out for 08 (which I would expect is the car-makers' year)? Or, something with a slightly lower power range that you could imagine putting on a 223 for 600yds or so?

Thanks,
Duane

i'm thinking seriously about trying one of these as a temporary, and delaying the IOR for a bit. the rationale is, maybe i can get a bit nicer IOR too. well, that, & i got the rifle ordered, & i feel kinda bad about going a bit hog wild all at once.
Blueridge Shooter
I can second the quality of these scopes, I bought a Vortex from Scott to put on the SPR Vern is putting together for me, the optics are 1st class and the quality of the scope along with the nice click adjustments are top notch. fing32.gif Has soon a ranging recticle becomes available I may be in the market for another,

i wussed out on the temp vortex. i was really close to picking up the phone, but i wanted to play around with mil-dots. as much as i wanted a variable, i went ahead and got a 10x SS. i figured it'll give me a good idea of whether i'm gonna want more than 10x on a good quality variable.
now watch, the tactical models will come out this week !!!

FWIW, I have both and haven't wrung either out yet but during a short range trip both seem to track as advertised. But as far as clarity and twilight performance are concerned, the Viper (3-9x40) makes the SS (10x42) look like a turd wearing lipstick. JMHO.

ahh man..thanks a pantload paul !!!! LOL. at least i can always sell the SS if i don't like it. which is one of a few reasons i went with it for now.
but, yeah, it seems like they are trying to make a good product.
hey paul - if you do get to check the tracking a bit more thoroughly, and any other aspects of that viper, can you report back with what you think of it?

I have had a chance to do a side by side with my Viper and a buddies IOR. OK no illusions here, the IOR is a sweet scope droolguy.gif , but is also over 3 times the cost ohmy.gif . It is an apples to oranges comparison.

I am extremely happy with the Vortex viper. If you need a great scope on a budget, definetly hook up with Scott and get some info on the Vortex scopes.

I continue to be another satisfied Liberty Optics customer!!

Thanks again, Scott.

Thank you very much. We appreciate it. We really do love our customers. Just great folks, time after time again.

We will be at SHOT 2008, so hopefully Vortex will have some nice surprises in store.
