I'm looking for a No.5 MK1 Jungle Carbine and found this one, it's the first listing on the page. Does it look worth the price?

I was also looking at the military Mausers, there's some beauties in there for 2-3.5k

That's overpriced, I'd shop elsewhere.

I've already looked around and what I've found looks like a tank rolled over it for $150. I'm pretty much looking for a collectible I won't be shooting.

Jungle carbines aren't that easy to find. Most of what is out there are repros, not the real deal.

The collector on that website has a great reputation, he only sells good to excellent specimens. He spends months out of the year in Europe finding high quality milsurps. You'll never find Mausers there for $150. I don't know too much about the Enfields and have never owned one except for a No.3 that was bored out to .410 shotgun. They were used in India for bird hunting.

Hi SR;

For what it's worth, I sold a No.5 Mk.1 made by Fazakerly all matching numbers, condition exc+ before I left this last time. I got $750.00 and the buyer was very happy. It was 100%, the rubber kick pad was still unmarked or nicked 99.9% finish and a nice blonde stock wink.gif
I've had a slew of Enfield rifles over the years, starting in the late 1950's when a local deptment strore had rack upon rack of Enfields from No.1 Mk.IIIs, No.i Mk.5s and No.4 Mk.1s and in all modifications. The biggest thing I learned was research you rifle before you buy it, if I buy a No.5 Mk.I without research I stick to the metal fore end capped one's. Most of the phoney converted carbines will have the old style rounded wood which is actually the middle type fore end version. The best book I know to sort out the trash from the good is "The Lee-Enfield Story" by Ian Skennerton.

The Lee Enfield rifle is very interesting with hundreds of variations so use care. I am down to only two now. Niether are import marked, one is a Savage No.4 Mk.I with South African ownership marks, the other a No.I mk.III* made by Lithgow dated 1941, bot are in exc. shape and shoot great.

This site you listed looks a little high for condition stated based on his No.1 Mk.V, I saw better going for about $150.00 less last year.

take care. my friend...Jim

just don't get duped. all real jungle carbines are no. 5 's, no exceptions, lot of fakes out there

some really nice ones come up on Gunbroker all the time in the $500 -$600 dollar range
still remember passing them up at the gun shows when they went for $75.....
