If you had the cash for a revolver like this which would you choose for Bear/Deer hunting? The CZ-USA/Dan Wesson Alaskan is chambered in 445 Supermag, 44 mag and 44 Special.

And the S&W 460XVR is chambered is chambered in .460mag, .454 Casull and 45 Colt.

Both revolvers can chamber all three calibers with the same cylinder.

Hi SR;

If I were a rich man...hmmmm...catchy tune biggrin.gif Personally I'd go with the .460, very flat shooting plus I really like .454 Casull, and any round that the .454 is considered a step down to has gotta be good. Plus I think, IMHO, the .45 Colt is mo better round for all around plinking and loading to nuke capabilities than the .44 Special. Plus it's .45 wink.gif
One day I'll have a .460XVR, don't know if I'll ever have a CZ-USA/Dan Wesson...well maybe one of his 1911's, who knows.

Take care, my friend...Jim

I'll probably go with the .460XVR myself, it's more suitable for target than the Dan Wesson. I'm not too familiar with the .445 Supermag.

The 445 DW is a very good round, I have one of the old ones with 8" barrel for sillouette shooting, the 454's to me are too violent. The Alasken model has been around awhile, made for the outfitters in bear country. But when you got a 900lb grizzely at your feet, I don't think you'll be worried about recoil. The only problem I have with D.Wesson is there in and out of business too much. A shooter in New York bought the rights from Wesson family a few years ago, then last year he sold it to CZ, but he still makes and keeps parts in stock for all the old revolvers.

SR, I'd go with the XVR but if you wanted more of a hip or pack gun I'd go with the 460V.

I like the 10.1" barrel model. The .454 looks like a 38 Special compared to the .460

LOL, in a sense it is ohmy.gif And the .45LC a lowly "cowboy"action load wink.gif I've used the .454 a long time, it's a favorite, that kind of makes the .460 just more to like biggrin.gif Plus I got a pile of .44MAGs, new caliber a justifiable reason to buy a new pistol..uh, yeah...to tell the wife I do not have one of these rolleyes.gif
Take care, my freind...Jim...honest I don't have one of these, I know it looks like, but.....

The .460 has a FLAT trajectory at 200 yards, hits like a school bus, and is faster than some rifle cartridges, what's not to like... smile.gif
