What are the major differences between these scopes, and why is the 10x42 approx $300 more? I'd like to put an IOR on my Savage 300WM (not mine yet but the money order is in the mail) smile.gif The 10x56 is more in my price range.

Are you referring to the money order in the mail comment? That's for a rifle dummy! laugh.gif

Brother,

I know I'm a bit eccentric and sarcastic at times (not your prototype businessman) but I would never, EVER shame or "guilt trip" anybody on this board for not buying IOR, much less anything else, from me. Such is a purely personal decision, made with your money, and is none of my business. I want anybody who reads this thread to know that, as you raise a good point. The money order comment was not the source of my strife, I correctly interpreted your post as having payment sent for a new rifle (congrats).

However, my friend, I have spent 2.5 years of my life working diligently to become the.......... (drumroll)

aka the Ior Answer Man

and for failing to consult I.A.M with your pertinent question, you should be shunned shame.gif

I mean, I am at the service of the membership here acclaim.gif angel.gif helping you with questions is what I do, and I take great pride in the fact I'm regarded as a straight shooter when it comes to getting you the straight scoop 9mm.gif so.......what I am saying is.......

So, I.A.M., why the price difference between the 2 scopes?
LibertyOptics
Uhhhhh, I.A.M going to have to get back with you on that.... unsure.gif

OK, OK, playtime is over. Sorry guys, just trying to keep it light.

$300 difference between the two? That's a simple one. You are either getting a HOT deal on the 10x56, getting bent over on the 10x42, or both. Cost is about $150 difference.

HOWEVER, thus is a moot point in this discussion. The real difference is the 10x42 has proven to be a more rugged, reliable scope. Of all the IORs I've sold since I've been started doing this, the number one return item I've sold are the IOR 56mm objective scopes. I am not exaggerating when I tell you >50% have been return for warranty claims within the first year of ownership. That's from MY sales. I don't know what the friggin' problem is but the 56mm IORs are a HEADACHE. On a .300 WM I see trouble on the horizon.

Brother Schmidt Rubin, I will do everything in my power to help you. The choice is yours. Forewarned is forearmed. I just want to lay all the cards on the table for you. That's where my vendorship benefits the MEMBERSHIP here. I hope it OK that I speak this frankly.

Well I.A.M. (isn't that a dog food?) biggrin.gif
We wouldn't have it any other way.

Happy New Year Brother.

If the 10x56 is a problem child wouldn't it be in IOR's best interest to correct the problem on the production line? Like any other company, man hours are lost doing repairs as well as profits. I think most companies would have discontinued it.

I got the prices from the IOR website, the 10x42 was a tad under $300 more.

SR,

Hit Scott for his prices. That will give you the real scoop. Although I was giving him grief, he is the Answer Man, Da Man, all that stuff. wink.gif

Here, let me help you out! The 10x42 is worth it. The 10x56 is not. Simple, don't you think? One (10x42) is made of solid steel the other is (alloysumpthon) (you know I hate to say junk) but I'll be kind and say it's a IOR mistake.

IMHO, flea

Just the fact that the 42mm is steel would account for the price difference.

Sorry for diggin up an old thread but id like a little more light on the situation if there is any to be shed.

I have been eyeing the 10 x 56 as it is quite the affordable piece of kit and meets my criteria, however, this is the second place i have heard its a problem scope and the 10 x 42 is better. I agree with the posters opiniong that if this is a problem scope
why is it still being offered?

Is the only difference that the 10 x 56 is aluminum alloy? Are the lense coatings the same? I am looking for a fixed 10x with a large objective for hunting at dusk. it saddens me that the 10 x 56 is turning out to sound more like a steaming pile than a hot deal.

Probably have a good stock of them. Since people have heard that they are crap and arent buying them. Jsut my TwoCents.gif

+1,

If they're sitting on them, they're selling them, or trying to. wink.gif

Plus that, you have to keep in mind that most hunters put what? 5-10 rounds if that a year through their rifles?

Besides, the vast majority of the shooting public is not as anal about their optics as we are, I wasn't until I got edumacated. smile.gif Once your average hunter's scope is zeroed, the turrets may never be turned again. That scope may last forever being used like that.

It all comes down to what you're doing with it I reckon.

Weaver has some quality affordable scopes, I think they're over 10X though.

The lens coatings are the same. Of the 56mm IOR scopes, the 10x56 has been nowhere near the problen the 56mm variable scopes has been. If you want to try the scope, we will back you if anything should go wrong. Your purchase is risk-free.
