I like to know what you all use to clean your cases; type of device (brand), media, and at what point in the cycle do you clean?

I use a Dillon vibrating tumbler with corncob media, once in a while I add a dollop of the case cleaning liquid that Dillon sells.

I clean my cases after I sort them.

I've been wanting to try one of the ultrasonic case cleaners, and Hawker sent me a method using stainless steel media that sounds great.

I've been looking at both of these also. Do you decap your brass prior to cleaning?

I don't. On my handgun rounds I don't care, on my precision rifle stuff I always reamed/cleaned the primer pockets as a separate step during brass prep.

Sorry, late to the game as usual,

I switched to the Stainless Steel Media about 2 years ago, and it is outstanding!

BEFORE
(IMG:http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/captrichardson/BrassDirty.jpg)

AFTER
(IMG:http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/captrichardson/BrassClean.jpg)

Downside, is the initial cost of everything, but it is pretty much a one time investment.

Upside is, pop the primers out, throw them in, tumble for about 3 hours, rinse & dry, and you have brass that is cleaner than new.

Tip, once done, I rinse my brass in cold water, then in Alcohol that is at least 90% concentration (drug store or commercial). By doing that, it pulls all of the water off of / out of the cases and the alcohol evaporates / dries quickly with no residue. I reuse the alcohol 8-10 times and then pitch it.

Best of Luck,
M Richardson

Still use my Ultrasonic, see the pinned thread on that.

Then I still tumble in the treated corn media to protect the cases.

I have lost the link to the SS media/tumbler. Can you post it?

This is the "official company":

http://www.stainlesstumblingmedia.com/?gcl...CFc3MKgodZkZsig

There are also other folks and companies out there selling comparable products, your call on what you decide to use.

Just bit the bullet so to speak and order the kit. Thanks.

The process I plan to follow is this;

1. decap
2. clean cases with above
3. lube (spray lube) and neck size
4. prime
5. charge case
6. seat bullets

My next question is how to clean off case lube. Do I really need to add a step after neck size to use the tumbler again?

We should all be using the stainless steel media. That carbon that's left inside the cases really wears our bore out faster then you think. By removing the carbon it puts 1000's of more rounds of life on our barrels.

When we use the old method of cleaning (and I'm still using corn cob media) we leave all that carbon in the case. It's the first thing down the bore when we shoot that reloaded round. The carbon is now like gravel and our bullets are riding along the path. On a new barrel we could realistically see two the three thousand more rounds of life.
