Here are my thoughts. First, I thought of buying a hand gun and posting free security for my own children's school. Like others said, the community needs to get involved. I think there should be first responders, as in local boys and women who are home in the day that can respond to the school immediately until proper authority comes in and takes control. Whats the one common theme here.... during any of these instances, as soon as an assailant comes under authority, they off themselves. So immediate pressure would cause them to shoot themselves that much quicker. I think we should higher ex-special forces who are currently working burger joints because they can't find other work, or unemployed because people are afraid to higher combat hardened veterans. Some I've met have an absolute love for children and would die to save them. Those are just some thoughts.

To cover the butts of the local crowd, a list would be submitted to the sheriffs office and local State Police barracks so they know who not to shoot! Where I live, it would be 15min for the first responders to get here. Local barracks in either direction is 15 minutes to the south, and 20 minutes to the north. So local community should be involved.[/b]
One other thought, If we can have trained volunteer fireman, why not a trained volunteer terrorist reaction group? Give them blue lights like the fireman, and let them speed to the sight of the attack. Give them bullet proof vests, VTRG (Volunteer Terrorist Reaction Group) badges on their vests so that the police know who they are? Give them practical and tactical training just like the S.W.A.T.! I would join in a heart beat!
    John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

    Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. [2] Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

How about rotating all qualified EMT and Firefighters through the School system in their jurisdiction? One week duties or what ever it takes to make contact with the kids? Wearing their colors in the school. And armed of course.

Works for me, what ever it takes.

Well, Ive seen a knifing in school as a kid. But this behaviour goes back to the upbringing of a child, (Or lack thereof) The world is getting rough as a cob! Been to Israel, yes, they are armed. Heres one you probably DIDNT know.

In Alaska, someone had to explain to me why I saw kids walking to school with high powered weapons. (Its allready being done and has been in alaska for decades) The boy I saw was a local, around 8 years old I would imagine. I didnt ask, because the rifle he was carrying was bigger than he was. (M-1 Garand) One of the locals told me the biggest problem they have in child mortality is BEARS in town. (Many a child has gone "missing" from their attacks) Even trick or treaters are armed. (Or escorted by armed adults) Now, this being said, at the door of the school was a gunrack, the childs weapon is unloaded, ammo stored, and returned to them for the walk home. Sound wisdom. Now, if every one is armed, Ive always found society is much more, how shall I put it.....POLITE. I bought my first gun at 12, was shooting dads weapons at 7. I taught my son at about the same age. Its a F*cked up world, but my boys gonna come home. I suppose the governments biggest problem with guns, is the fact they are afraid, of pissing us off. (To Late) But then, im from kentucky, you cant spit and not hit an armed person. Im ALWAYS armed, so is my wife, and so is my son. So, to be short here, I DONT CARE what the rest of the world does or thinks, Its mind over matter. I dont mind, and THEY dont matter.
P.S. Here, armed police stay on duty IN THE SCHOOLS. We have been doing that for decades too.

People have been killing people for over 4,000 years. It didn't take guns to start it. I'm all for armed guards in our schools, providing they are properly trained. I'm talking counter terrorism type training. Metal detectors and ID checks. Here in Virginia we have picture ID cards. You can not pick up you kids unless you show it and sign in.

It is our God given right to protect ourselves. I don't need my Government telling me how, where and why. In 1994 when they did the weapons band. Crime didn't change at all. If they do a weapons band now. Only the bad guys, LEO's and our Government will have weapons. Not good.

Please remember these words from one of the smartest men in America: "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."
"with the patience of an oyster....I watch and wait"

Training the US, one shooter at a time.

My wife is a 1st grade teacher and I've got a 4 yr old about to start school one day. We should put security in the school with a gaurd/ guards; Real effective security planned by professionals not school district leaders. Use volunteers who are qualified where u can get them and pay people if needed. The fed/state could offer tax breaks or other incentives where cash flow is an issue. A human patrol would not require much infrastructure or investment in property by school. most schools already have locked doors but tighten up that protocol. Capture the low hanging fruit first, plan changes to be measurable, keep things simple, focus on quality and creating a full proof system. Don't create a completely inflexible set of rules for unique campuses or circumstances. People are coming into schools and shooting children, the equation isn't real complicated. The problem is identified, step one is over. People need to go ahead and get over the fact that this is our new reality, horrible to conceieve, but this is today's world. The fact is that all of these incidents were avoidable. This is the positive. Everybody and their brother probably doesnt need an AR 15 but the shelf life on a gun is pretty long, so they are going to be there for a while yet no matter what legislation is passed. This could happen again tomorrow and these events seem to be contagious. The media should take a look at their role in all this hype. It's a safe bet that each killer knew about the last. Hypothetically, if all these killings were completely unsolved we would be thinking its the same guy or group. That should tell us something. Somebody said ; we gaurd our money, our air planes, ect... Why not gaurd our most precious resource, ditto to that, the world needs to just get over the fact that this is needed now days.
The reason why is the complicated discussion, but leaders shouldn't waste time arguing that right now until the obvious is addressed first. If we come up with some wonderful way to identify people who are prone to this type of violence then we can look at backing off, but we are here now. Plan accordingly.
